Ways to pay for
occupational therapy

You are welcome to ask about costs before you decide. We confirm the service, practitioner and fee before you book.

01 / Private health insurance

Check your extras cover.

Occupational therapy is included in many extras policies. Your occupational therapy private health rebate depends on your cover and the practitioner you see.

Ask your fund about item codes for occupational therapy, your annual limit and your rebate amount. You can claim eligible sessions up to your fund’s limits, subject to its rules. Telehealth cover and practitioner recognition need to be checked separately.

Questions to ask your fund

  • Does my policy cover occupational therapy by telehealth?
  • Is my In Context occupational therapist recognised by your fund?
  • Which item code applies to my appointment?
  • What will you pay towards a $150 session or an eligible $80 welcome session?
  • What annual or combined limits and waiting periods apply?
  • Do I need a referral, and what details must be on my receipt?

Give your fund the actual fee you will pay. The welcome rate does not guarantee a private health rebate.

Medicare and private health extras cannot both be claimed for the same session.

02 / NDIS

Start with your plan.

Contact us to discuss whether the OT support you need fits your disability related goals, plan and funding arrangements. We confirm whether we can provide the service and agree the fee before you book.

The October welcome rate does not apply to NDIS funded sessions.

60 minute individual OT telehealth sessions

Offer terms

Applies to new clients who book their first session between 1 and 31 October 2026. Rate continues while you remain an active client. Telehealth only. Not available with Medicare or NDIS funded sessions.

Active means continuing an agreed course of care with In Context. There is no minimum session frequency. Planned pauses agreed with your OT do not end the rate. The rate has no fixed end date during that course of care and ends when care is concluded. Sessions are based on your needs, not on keeping a discount. You can stop at any time.

The welcome rate is for a 60 minute individual OT telehealth session. Reports, functional capacity assessments and other services are quoted separately before you agree to them. An enquiry does not confirm a booking. We confirm suitability, appointment details, fees and cancellation terms before you book.

Fees shown are the total session charge. Assessments, reports and other services need a separate quote. Ask us about cancellation terms before confirming an appointment.

Your questions

A little clarity
before you begin.

Can I claim OT on private health?

Many extras policies include occupational therapy. Whether you can claim depends on your policy, remaining limits, telehealth cover and whether your fund recognises your OT. Ask your fund to confirm before booking. A rebate is not assured.

Do I need a GP referral?

You do not need a GP referral to enquire about a privately paid OT session. Your health fund may have its own requirements. Contact us if you are considering a funded pathway so we can check what is needed before you book.

Can I use Medicare for occupational therapy?

Please contact us to check whether a Medicare eligible OT appointment is available before relying on a rebate. Eligibility depends on the practitioner, the service and your referral. The October welcome rate cannot be used for Medicare funded sessions. Medicare and private health extras cannot both be claimed for the same session.

Is telehealth as effective as in person?

Telehealth can be an option for discussing daily activities and trying strategies in your own setting. It is not suitable for every person, assessment or goal, and we do not promise the same results as in person care. We discuss your needs, privacy, access and preferences to decide whether it is suitable.

What happens after October?

New bookings for the welcome offer close on 31 October 2026. If you qualify, your $80 rate continues during your agreed course of care. There is no minimum session frequency and planned pauses agreed with your OT do not end the rate. Once care is concluded, a later return is a new episode and the fee is confirmed before booking.
